WHAT HAPPENED AT CHARACTERIZED SINGAPORE 2013
For the first time, Cut&Paste set foot in Singapore, the creative hub of Southeast Asia and home to some of the freshest studios this close to the equator. Making this possible is our partnership with Zouk, one of the most innovative electronica clubs in Asia. A big congratulations goes out to the champs of the night TEAM 3 - Gun Lo & Wanton Doodle!
TOURNAMENT ARTWORK // Theme : Animal Spirit
In this competition, the 3 teams of 2 designers are challenged to create “Animal Spirit” characters based on a previously created human character from a book, comic, movie, or other story. The competition was made up of 3 onstage rounds, each intended to create a product to be used in the following round. In the first 10-minute onstage round, competitors prepared a black & white sketch of their animal spirit character. In the second 10-minute round they prepared a second black & white sketch of an animal spirit character for a different human character. In the final 15-minute round, the teams added full detail in color, texture, and style the character of their audience-chosen human/animal spirit.

Gun Lo
Designer / Illustrator, Freelance
gunawanlo.com
Born in Indonesia and have been working in Singapore as a graphic designer and freelance illustrator for the past 5 years. My work explores the role of perception in everyday life. By placing colorful psychadelic creatures in a wide range of different scenes and settings, I enjoy creating perceptual shifts between character and context.
Wanton Doodle
Illustrator, Wanton Doodle
wantondoodle.com
When asked to describe himself, the artist behind Wanton Doodle confesses, 'My name is Mas and I am a compulsive doodler'. He is a corporate cog by day, illustrator by night, with dark eye circles to prove it. His works are inspired by doodles borne out of the desire to stay awake during mind-numbing meetings and the compulsion to expend office supplies. Mas stretches his doodling canvas beyond traditional application and amalgamates varying styles into a look he describes as 'OCD meets LSD'.

Senior Concept Artist, Ubisoft
jinssecretlair.prosite.com
As the story goes, sometimes I am not sure if I am an artist first or a game maker. Having been involved with the game industry for the past 9 year, I realized that either way, I am doing something I truly love.
Currently I am working at Ubisoft as a Senior Concept artist, having done art direction duties, texture work and also lighting assisting in a couple of their top franchise ( Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia). Before Ubisoft, I was the concept artist for a Malaysian game company called Gamebrains sdn. bhd. before starting my own little studio with a couple of my friends called Big Bad Robots.
I am always fascinated by the concept that art is a communication tool as much as math is the language of the universe. Graduated with a degree in film and animation, I've always been excited about using visual art creatively to get an idea out. A personal principle of mine is to tell a story with everything I create.
I am always curious, excited and eager to explore the unknown!
As Hunter S. Thompson said, 'Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube.'
Senior Designer, VHQ Post Singapore
Coroflot
I graduated as a graphic designer from the University of Karachi.
Eventually i realize that my interests were more towards conceptual arts and animation. I started my career as a Flash animator (cartoon character animation) in one of the animation companies back in Pakistan. switched a couple of jobs finding the right place and people to work with, where i could gain more knowledge. I did a lot of jobs as a freelancer all around the world remotely. Then i came across softwares like after effects and 3d max etc. From that point on...I start learning all of these great Softwares specially Maya, 3D max, AfterEffects, Photoshop and Zbrush. So i've became a 3D generalist / concept artist and a designer. i enjoy doing traditional arts. I always try to create things that are believable with a glare of fantasy. My strengths what i would say are compositing, concept art, 3d modeling and design. Always in-search of new possibilities.

iamcaramelaw.com
Designer/Illustrator by day and a candyland illustrator by night. She is based in Singapore and she loves to draw.
Cute + Morbid best describes her art.
Majored in animation back in school but ventured into broadcast design when she started working.
She's done design work for MTV Asia, Sony International, DC Comics, Hasbro, Channel-U and many others. Won a Silver PROMAX Award back in 2005 for one of her on-air promos for MTV Asia. That made her a very happy girl.
Besides the sickening world of broadcast, she finds herself emerged in her little world of candies, rainbows and mushrooms. Her vector paradise which she can never stop creating. Caramelaw hopes her art will reach out to the world and bring joy to those who enjoys her art.
